Distributing Seats
To give a team member access:
- Find an Available seat in the table
- Click the seat key to copy it
- Send the key to the team member securely
- They enter the key in Redline to activate
Send seat keys through secure channels (encrypted email, password manager, etc.). Treat them like passwords.
Revoking a Seat
If a team member leaves or loses access to their machine:
- Find their seat in the table
- Click the Revoke button
- Confirm the revocation
What happens:
- The old seat key stops working immediately
- A new seat key is generated automatically
- The new key appears in the table as "Available"
- You can distribute the new key to someone else
Revoking a seat immediately deactivates that user. They will need the new key to continue using Redline.
Seat Lifecycle
New Seat
When your Enterprise license is created, all seats start as Available:
- Initial seat keys are generated
- Keys appear in the management table
- Distribute to team members as needed
Activation
When a team member enters their seat key in Redline:
- Seat status changes to Active
- Activation date is recorded
- Machine ID is associated with the seat
- AI budget is allocated for that seat
Transfer to New Machine
If a user needs to move to a new machine:
- They deactivate Redline on the old machine (Settings > License > Deactivate)
- Enter the same seat key on the new machine
- The seat remains Active with the same key
Revocation
When you revoke a seat:
- Old key is invalidated
- New key is generated
- Old machine is immediately deactivated
- New key is Available for distribution
Best Practices
Track Assignments
Maintain your own record of who has which seat:
- Use a spreadsheet or IT asset management system
- Record seat number, key, and assignee
- Update when seats are revoked and reassigned
Regular Audits
Periodically review your seats:
- Identify seats that should be revoked (departed employees)
- Reclaim unused Available seats
- Ensure active seats are actually being used
Onboarding Process
For new team members:
- Assign an Available seat in your tracking system
- Copy the seat key from the dashboard
- Send via secure channel with installation instructions
- Verify activation in the dashboard
Offboarding Process
When team members leave:
- Revoke their seat immediately
- Update your tracking system
- Assign the new key to a replacement (or keep available)
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see what my team is researching?
No. Redline stores all investigation data locally on each user's machine. The Seat Management dashboard only shows seat status and usage statistics.
What happens if a seat expires?
When the license expires:
- All seats become inactive
- Users see an "expired license" message
- Renewing the license reactivates all seats with the same keys
Can I add more seats?
Contact sales@getredline.io to add seats to your Enterprise license.
Can seats be used on multiple machines?
Each seat can be activated on one machine at a time. To move machines, deactivate the old one first. Alternatively, revoke and reassign to allow immediate access on a new machine.
What if someone loses their seat key?
Find their seat in the dashboard (by activation date or user info) and share the key again. If compromised, revoke and issue a new key.
